Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer among adults and is even becoming more common in the younger population. In fact, over 40,000 Americans are diagnosed with this disease every year.

Early Detection is Important

Regular oral cancer screenings are the first line of defense in early detection, and early detection is one of the best predictors for surviving the disease. It’s for these reasons that we perform screenings during every exam.

Non-Invasive Procedure

The screening is a simple, non-invasive procedure with no pain or discomfort involved. The dentist will feel and visually examine in and around your mouth and lymph nodes of the neck, looking for any swelling or other abnormalities. The doctor may also ask about your general health or review possible risk factors, such as smoking and alcohol use.

Catch it Early

Although the oral cancer screening is among the easiest parts of the dental visit for most patients, it’s one of the most important aspects of the exam. Getting screened during your routine cleanings and all your visits gives you the best chance of catching any potential cancer in its early, most curable state.
